R.E.D CUP 1V1 CHAMPIONSHIP RULES

Rules and Regulations

  1. The following rules have been designed to ensure fair play for all participants. Each player is expected to understand these rules prior to participation in the tournament.
  2. Any question concerning these rules should be directed to the event staff.
  3. The R.E.D referees and directors have  the full rights and authority to make a decision in any case. It is not limited to the following specific cases covering in the following 1V1 basketball rules.

Prior to the Game

  

  1. Each match shall be composed of two players, 1 referee, a timekeeper and a stats recorder.
  2. The names of these players must be on the registration form by the entry deadline.
  3. Additions and/or changes to any roster must be approved by tournament officials and completed prior to the start of the team’s first game.  
  4. All players must sign the check-in sheet before each game.
  5. The game shall be delayed by up to 2 minutes until both players are on the court. A warning will be given if the absent player arrives  within 1 minute after game starts and is ready to play; If the absent player arrives on the court and is ready to play within 1 minute or more, then the technical foul will be punished, and the party who arrives on the court on time will shoot 1 free throw before start; If an absent player does not arrive on the court after more than 2 minutes, the player will be punished to forfeit the game, with a score of 0-W.
  6. In the group games, the game of rock/paper/scissors prior to the start of the game will determine which player has the initial possession. The winner of the R.P.S game will have the right to choose the possession at the beginning of the game or at the beginning of the overtime. 
  7. In the elimination games and the final game, the players of both sides decide the right of possession by free throw. The shorter player takes a pregame free throw, and if he makes it, he will have the option of taking the ball at the beginning of the game or at the beginning of overtime. If the shorter player misses the free throw, the taller player will have the right to choose the possession of the ball.


* If both players are of the same height, the ball option is decided directly by both    players in a game of rock, paper, scissors.

Starting Play/Throw-In

The ball must be checked and thrown (not dribbled) behind the top of the arc of the three point line.

  •   First Violation: Warning from the referee or court monitor. 
  •   Subsequent Violations: Change of Possession.

Game Play

  1. Length of Games: 7 minutes for group games, 9  minutes for elimination games, and 11 minutes for the final game. With running clock, the clock will stop at time out. 
  2. No make it and take it: the ball changes possession after each scored basket.
  3. Winning: A player leading in regular time or, if so, before the end of regular time, the first player to score the required number of points or more wins.  The prescribed winning score for the group games is 7 points, and the prescribed winning score for the elimination games is 9 points, and the prescribed score for the final is 11 points.
  4. Overtime: If the scores is tied at the end of regular time, an overtime shall be played. There will be no break before the start of the overtime period. The player who has the ball at the beginning of the deciding period starts the attack first, and the player who scores first wins immediately.
  5. Stalling: No stalling is allowed. The court monitor or event staff member may institute a 10-second shot clock at any time. After a team has been warned about stalling, failure to attempt a shot within 10 seconds will result in loss of possession.
  6. Jump Balls: All jump balls become the possession of the defensive team.
  7. No Parking Zone: There is no 3 second rule, per se. However, the expectation is that players do not park in the key. Therefore, a 5 second rule where a player may not be in the key.   
  8. Scoring: Baskets made from inside the arc count as 1 points. Baskets made when the shooter has both feet behind the arc count as 2points. A DUNK counts 2 points. Court monitors or referees will call“two points.” If there is any doubt on the location of the shot, 1 points will be given by court monitor. Each free throw made counts 1 point. 
  9. Presenting: A player shall lose the game by forfeit if at the scheduled starting time of the game, the player is not present on the playing court. In case of a forfeit, the game score is marked with w-0 or 0-w (“w” standing for win). For the winning player, this game result shall not be considered when calculating the average score of the team while for the losing player, this game result shall be considered with 0 points when calculating the average score of the player. A player shall be disqualified from the competition after his  second forfeit or in case of no-show.  
  10. Default: A player shall lose the game by default if it leaves the court before the end of the game or the player is injured and/or disqualified. In case of a default situation, the winning player may choose to keep his score as it stands or to have the game forfeited, whilst the defaulting score the player is set to 0 in any case. In case of a default where the winning  player choses to have the game forfeited, the game result shall not be considered when calculating the average score of the player.
  11. After the Game: Both players need to sign the scoresheet to ensure the correct score is reported. If there is a discrepancy, the decision of the scorekeeper will be final.

Fouls/Free Throws

  1. A player is in a penalty situation after he has committed 3 fouls. The other player will be awarded 1 free throw, and 1+1 bonus (make the first one in order to shoot the second) after 6 fouls. Players are not excluded based on the number of personal fouls.
  2. If the foul is committed on a player in the act of shooting, that player shall be awarded a number of free throws as follows:
  3.  If the shot released from the field goal area is successful, the goal shall count and, in addition, 1 free throw shall be awarded.
  4. If the shot released from inside the arc is unsuccessful, 1 free throws shall be awarded.
  5. If the shot released from behind the arc or any DUNK is unsuccessful, 2 free throws shall be awarded.
  6. Unsportsmanlike and disqualifying fouls are counted as 2 fouls for that player. The unsportsmanlike foul and all disqualifying of a player shall be penalized with 2 free throws, and ball possession. 
  7. All technical fouls shall be always penalized with 1 free throw. The free throw shall be administered immediately. After the free throw, the check-ball shall be administered by the player which had control of the ball or was entitled to the ball when the technical foul was called. 
  8. An offensive foul shall not be penalized with free throws.

How the Ball Is Played

  1. There is a maximum of one shot per play, no second shot or rebounds.
  2. An offense ends with: making or missing a shot, making or missing a free throw; or the offensive player is tackled, blocked, either player finally touches the ball out of bounds, and jump ball situations.
  3. At the beginning of each game or after the end of an attack, player should check the ball outside the arc at the top of the court to proceed.
  4. When the ball is exchanged before each attack, the referee hands the ball to the defensive player, and defensive player makes one bounce pass to the offensive player.
  5. If the exchange of ball is deemed improper, the referee may issue a warning and retry the exchange, if the second reminder is invalid. At the third time, referee may call a technical foul.
  6. If the defensive player intentionally kicks or blocks the ball with any part of the leg or punches the ball, etc, in the event of such a violation, the referee shall order the offensive player to restart the attack.
  7. At the time of the penalty shot, the defender should be outside the arc, and must not deliberately interfere with the free throw, otherwise the referee may issue a warning or call a technical foul, and an interfered free throw may be replayed.
  8. Allow the offensive player to use street basketball moves on the premise of ensuring the consistency of the movements, regular rules may be called for double-dribble and walking violations appropriate tolerance, under specific circumstances, conditions shall be determined according to the standard criteria of the R.E.D referees.
  9. Do not dribble with your back toward the hoop or side toward the hoop for more than 5 seconds without shooting the ball. 
  10. If the defensive player re]bounds, steals or blocks the ball, it's  considered a dead ball with an exchange of possession.
  11. Possession of the ball given to either team following any dead ball situation shall start/resume with a check-ball, i.e. an exchange of the ball (between the defensive and the offensive player) behind the arc at the top of the playing court.
  12. A player is considered to be “behind the arc” when neither of his feet is inside or on the arc line.
  13. In the event of a jump ball situation, the game shall be resumed with a check-ball for the last defensive team.

Substitutions

There is no substitutions due to 1V1 game nature.

Time-outs

  1. There is no chance for either player to call a timeout.
  2. If the playing court is slippery, player injured, third party interference, equipment failure, the referee shall have the right to suspend the game and stop the game if the referee considers it necessary to suspend the game.
  3. The clock is set until the referee deems it safe to continue.

Injury

  1. If a player is injured during the game, he can get 3 minutes of adjustment time and choose whether to continue the game.
  2. During the adjustment period the referee can request to advance the next game.
  3. After adjustment time, players who are still unable to continue playing will be considered as active waivers.

Disqualification

A player shall be disqualified for the remainder of the game when he is charged with 2 unsportsmanlike fouls. A player disqualified from the game may be further disqualified from the event by the R.E.D CREW. Independent thereof, the R.E.D CREW shall disqualify player(s) concerned from the event for acts of violence, verbal or physical aggression, tortuous interference in game results, a violation of R.E.D’s Anti-Doping rules. The R.E.D CREW may also disqualify the entire team from the event depending on the other team members' contribution (also through non-action) to the aforementioned behavior. R.E.D's right to impose disciplinary sanctions under the regulatory framework of the event.

Tournament Scoring

The following principles will apply to the group game standings. If the two sides are still the same after the first step, the next comparison will be made, and so on.

  • 1st - most points (using win-loss-tie format)
  • 2nd - Head to Head
  • 3rd - Point differential (Points for - Points against)
  • 4th - Points agains
  • 5th - Points for
  • 6th - Free throw (shooting)

  Decisions for any issues will be made by the tournament director and will be final.
